FROM FRIENDS
TO COLLEAGUES
TO VISIONARIES.
Dr. Franca, Dr. Smit and Dr. Ho-Kang-You met each other for the first time when they were still high school students at Colegio Arubano, where they formed a friendship. After graduating with their VWO diplomas, all 3 of them took the path of medicine. Dr. Franca became a gastroenterologist (stomach, colon and liver doctor); Dr. Smit became a surgeon; and Dr. Ho-Kang-You became a general practitioner.
Some time after they all returned to Aruba to practice medicine, Dr. Franca, as a colon specialist, discovered that the cases of colon cancer were incredibly high on the island, and have increased drastically in the past 10 years. We also started seeing cases of younger individuals with colon cancer. For this reason, Dr. Franca decided to reach out to his old friends, who also became doctors, so that they can work together to take action against colon cancer on Aruba.

The circumstances were ideal; because a general practitioner is the one who evaluates your symptoms to confirm if a screening is necessary, a gastroenterologist performs a colonoscopy, and if a person is indeed diagnosed with colon cancer, a surgeon performs the operation in an attempt to remove the cancer. In other words, it was a huge coincidence that these 3 friends from Colegio Arubano took the exact steps in their medical career which made them 3 of the most fitting individuals to launch Fundacion CORESA.
FIGHTING FOR REDUCTION.
Colon cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer if you manage to detect it on time. Knowing this, it's quite unfortunate to look at the high number of cases on the island.

Fundacion CORESA is aimed at reducing the cases of colon cancer on Aruba by introducing various initiatives, all with different objectives, such as:​

Motivating everyone in our community to register for a screening from the moment they turn 45 years old.

Creating awareness to help people recognize potential symptoms of colon cancer, and reinforcing the importance of visiting your doctor if you see any symptoms, even if you are younger than 45.

Making the screening process easier.

Raising funds to invest in a testing machine that is more suitable for detecting colon cancer.

Drastically raising the number of screenings taken each year, which will have a positive impact on the number of potential cancers detected early on and eliminated. Because of this, we can dramatically reduce the cases of colon cancer on Aruba.
